I’m yet to have an experience of buddy bating but am planning to meet up and wank with some guys I’ve connected with and been chatting with thanks to BuddyBate.
I was just wondering what sort of precautions are taken by most guys when they go into it.
Have any of you guys who have done it ever gotten tested for STIs? I’m not into sucking or fucking, but frotting I do want to do and feel it’s possible for STIs to be transferred this way.
Also do you guys wear masks or make sure everyone involved is double vaxxed for Covid these days too?

This is a good question and one I hope readers might respond to also, with their own advice.
When it comes to Covid specifically, I am fully vaccinated and expect those I masturbate with to be fully vaccinated, too. To be honest, things have been significantly slow for the last 2+ years, for obvious reasons, but I know all the guys I meet with already and I know their characters. I would have no reason to think they aren’t vaccinated. We are all on the same page with regard to this. I still wear a mask for the time being, as do my bate friends.
I know various clubs which were operating in the last few months of 2021 (many of them are on hiatus right now because of the spread of Omicron) and they were maintaining masks and requiring proof of vaccination from all attendees.
When it comes to STIs, this is treated like any other sexual encounter and it’s really down to personal choices and the reasonable levels of risk one is comfortable taking in exchange for living life.
You can never be fully safe, from anything. You could catch an STI sitting on a toilet seat, but the likelihood of that is so small we don’t think about it. It’s the same with masturbation. Most men in our community have a selection of friends they regularly meet for masturbation. This reduces risk.
For those who attend larger gatherings where new men will be present, reasonable precautions such as cleaning hands when moving from one friend to another might be a good idea. I’ve hard of some men even using gloves. Personally I think wearing gloves is a step too far and kind of nullifies a large part of the reason you’d be masturbating other men.
Ultimately I think it comes down to your own perception of risk and what you are prepared to sacrifice to maintain a certain level of caution.

There’s a bit to unpack here. Bating yourself is risk free. Bating another guy, and even frotting, are incredibly low-risk behaviour. If fluids aren’t entering your body, soap and water is all you have to worry about. If your buddy has crabs (pubic lice) or an active outbreak of genital herpes, there is some risk there but open sores are pretty visible and if he can’t stop scratching (or you see obvious irritation from bites/scratching) then you have to make that call.
The reality is that all sexual activity involves a level of contact, but the risky behaviour comes from fluid exchange of some kind. So, know your own STI status. Get tested every 3-6 months if you’re regularly sexually active or 10-12 weeks after each partner. But if you’re just a buddy bater, an annual test is likely fine for yourself and something that can be brought up conversationally with fellow baters.
With genital herpes there is said to be a small risk of “viral shedding” – contagious but without an outbreak. There is not much information about this, but it would be safer to assume it is the case. Herpes is based in the nerves of the skin, so frotting would be higher risk, but hand/cock contact should be less risky if you wash up before “cross contamination.” I approach choking the chicken like handling raw chicken (or cock) – one hand reserved for the partner and wash afterwards/between.
