Another lovely week after which I feel the need to update you all about the lunacy lol
Slowdown
You probably noticed that the site was throwing errors repeatedly for most of the week. These were mostly 500 errors and it took a lot of work to narrow down the cause. Basically, without boring you too much, the newsletter aspect of the site failed after an update and we had to isolate it.
Yes, that might sound familiar. A lot of “plugins” have become increasingly bloated over time, and with every new update they issue there’s an ever-increasing chance of something breaking. This time it was the newsletter.
I think we’re on top of the errors now, but we’ll be keeping an eye on things.
Newsletter
As the newsletter aspect of the site failed we’ve switched to another, but this means manually moving subscribers to the new plugin. Trust me, it’s not fun.
I thought I had it all sorted out today, but it didn’t work out as expected.
So, you might get a newsletter update some time in the next few days and it will probably be the SFW version, until I can find an easy way to separate out the lists again (into regular Subscriber and ConfirmedBator).
Fiction
Because of all this nonsense this week, on top of my day job, I haven’t had the time to stay on top of the stories at BradSmithson. I will be working on this over the weekend. Apologies for those eager to read the latest, but I had no choice but to prioritize things here to make sure this site was stable and working.
That’s all for now. I’m gonna go and order something to eat and open a well-deserved beer. It’s almost 9:30 and if I have to stare at this screen for another ten minutes I think I might break it.
