So, our Tumblr is likely dead

Share with Buddies!

We’re sad to say it, but it looks like our near 100,000 fellow bators on Tumblr are about to vanish.

Tumblr has decided, in their infinite wisdom, to annihilate their own platform and ban all adult content. If you’re old enough to remember MySpace, LiveJournal, Yahoo Groups or Blogger, you know how this is going to go. I guess everyone working at Tumblr and making these decisions is too young to remember how all those companies faded into obscurity.

Hint: they all cracked down on legal adult content, and they all suffered the consequences of that decision.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, they don’t seem to know what they’re doing. It’s due to take effect on December 17th, but they’re already deleting blogs and banning posts. If they can’t even get the timing of this fiasco right, we don’t have much hope of them getting anything else right.

Likewise, they make no mention of erotic fiction, and reports are coming in of them banning posts which dare to even show *gasp!* a NIPPLE.

Now, we’re all for preventing those who shouldn’t see adult content from being exposed to it, and we believed that setting our blog to adult, as the platform provided, was enough. Apparently they have failed to police their own platform, and now this is the result of that failure – blame the users and attack their communities.

We’ll struggle to continue to grow at the pace we were, but we existed before Tumblr and we’ll carry on regardless.

All we can do now is wait to see what they do. If they delete all our posts and leave our followers intact, perhaps we can continue to post erotic text with a link back here. But, as said, their weak and contradictory PR statement about this farce doesn’t indicate where their line in the sand is. They suggest that art is fine, but art blogs showing any adult content are already being deleted.

The way they’re enforcing this change before the date they were supposed to enforce it, and with such a vague statement saying that maybe some things are okay and other’s aren’t without telling anyone what any of that actually means, we doubt that our blog there will exist in the next week or two.

I guess we’ll have to see how this goes.

Who can come up with a tumblr like platform exclusively for adult content the fastest? Millionaire on the making. (Wish I had the know how)

I would, but I’d get too distracted looking at the content.

What a pity that Tumblr is commiting suicide like this. I actually found this site through someone reposting one of your Tumblr posts — and I’m so glad I did. So long, Tumblr — but long live BuddyBate.com!

Thanks Brian! I’m glad you enjoy it here. We’re going to continue as we were, but we have to admit that the loss of Tumblr is going to deal a heavy blow to us. I hope our readers will be able to find ways to share our posts and content around the internet in the right places and continue to bring new bators to the blog.

Freedom of thought and expression is being quashed . Facebook, Twitter, other socials and now Tumbler will suffer as the alienated drop off and they’re left scratching their heads wondering why so many are leaving.

If Tumbler crashes and burns over this move they’ll have their just desert.

This has all happened before. Some of us remember Yahoo Groups, Blogger, LiveJournal. I believe all were popular for adult content and communities but they failed to police their own services and one day decided to start culling or hiding adult content from view. As a result, both slipped into obscurity and were replaced by the likes of Tumblr, Twitter and Reddit.
Unless Tumblr has some remarkable plan no other company has considered, they’re going to lose out in the same way.

Do you know of another platform we can use as a replacement?

We’re not looking for another at this time. We’re possibly going to be deleting all our visual content there and maintaining it as a text blog. It brought us a lot of new subscribers here and we were quickly approaching 100k followers, and we really don’t want to lose them all.
We might look at going back to Twitter, but I believe they’ll be making the same change in the next six months anyway.

So very disappointed. I had a bunch of bator friends on that platform and will really miss many of them

First of all, let’s face it – Verizon is about to take over Tumblr, so they want to “change” their image. It’s a bone-headed, misguided decision, but I respectfully beg to differ. There are many Tumblrs who aren’t at all interested in NSFW material, so I think Tumblr survives and won’t go the way of Yahoo Clubs and other afore-mentioned dinosaurs of the past 15 or 20 years.

There IS some hope and that is this new site, CRUMBLR. COM – that MIGHT allow all of those Tumblrs a watering hole for anyone interested in NSFW sites – but you MUST go to the URL and register if ANYTHING will happen. It may or may not, but at least it’s worth a try.

We’ve only three weeks to in 2018 and the New Year will bring many changes, NOT all of them necessarily “end of the line” for those of us who are not terrified, but delighted, at the sight of an erect penis – Tumblr may survive, but SHAME on them! Anyway, let’s move on into the future! 🙂
