I am wondering why it takes so long to upload a picture when I am sending a message to another fellow bater?

If you can shrink an image down that will likely help. An original photo you've just taken can be several MB when all you really need is a couple of hundred KB. The resolution is still going to be good, but you can resize them to something more manageable and that will speed things up (and save server resources)

If you are on a pc or laptop, you can simply use Paint to edit it and the size.
On phone, I am not sure, but there must be an editing option somewhere
