The Penis Art Of Lawrence C. Wald
I love some good art, and I really love the penis art of Lawrence C. Wald.
A friend sent me some images of his work and I was immediately impressed.
Each one a collage painstakingly created from individually cut (or uncut!) penises.
The purpose? To create something that is other than what it seems on the surface.
These colourful and dramatic pieces look like concoctions of colour and tone, or a mechanical mechanism, or a floral arrangement.
It’s not until you get closer that you realise the shapes are comprised of male members.
The compositions are impressive. The use of colour and tone really add movement and depth.
Reading Mr. Wald’s opinions on the disregard – and even derision – of male nudity in art, I find myself agreeing. The female nude is presented without much fanfare, while depictions of male nudity are dismissed or even mocked.
Depictions of female sexuality are viewed as empowering and brave, while depictions of male sexuality are often viewed as “dirty” and something to be ashamed of.
I love that he’s creating these images, and I love that he’s been successful in his work. We need brave male artists like this to push through the criticism.
These works are stunning, and I would gladly have one on my wall.
